Most insurance companies and health care savings plans cover the services of a registered dietitian up to $500 a year or more.
Before you waste your time wading through all of the nutrition information on the internet, check with your insurance provider to see if dietitian services are covered. Registered Dietitians are the nationally recognized nutrition experts. Dietitians complete an undergraduate degree in nutrition, and a year of practical internship before they practice. Dietitians are registered in the province in which they work and are committed to upholding evidence based practice.
Make yourself an appointment and get an assessment of your current diet, and a personally tailored plan to maximize your nutritional health for fertility and a healthy pregnancy.
The following are some of the Canadian insurance companies that I know of that offer coverage of up to $500 a year for registered dietitian services. Always check with your provider.
- Blue Cross
- Chambers of Commerce Group
- Great West Life
- Green Shield
- Liberty Health
- Manulife Financial
- Warren Shepell Employee Assistance Program
Most insurance companies will offer dietitian coverage, but whether your employer opted for it is the question. If you don’t have insurance coverage, ask your employer why? If you don’t live in Canada, I’m happy to refer you to a dietitian working in your country.
